1. Informational & Estimation Purposes Only
My Rent Splitter provides mathematical algorithms designed to assist roommates in facilitating fair, voluntary internal expense division. The figures, percentages, and breakdowns generated by our calculators are estimations and planning tools.
They do not constitute formal real estate appraisal, legal advice, financial counseling, or binding landlord-tenant determinations.
2. Critical Lease Notice: Joint & Several Liability
In virtually all US residential leases, all co-tenants sign under a legal clause known as Joint and Several Liability.
This means that your landlord or property management company does not recognize internal roommate splits. If the total lease rent is $3,000 and one roommate fails to pay their $1,000 share, the landlord has the legal right to demand the missing $1,000 from any or all remaining roommates.
Internal roommate agreements created with My Rent Splitter govern the moral and civil understanding between tenants, but do not alter your primary contractual obligations to your landlord.
3. Limitation of Liability
My Rent Splitter and its creators shall not be liable for any disputes, damages, financial losses, evictions, or disagreements arising between roommates, co-tenants, subtenants, or landlords resulting from the use or reliance upon calculations provided by this website.
Users are encouraged to maintain open communication, put roommate agreements in written signed documents, and consult a qualified local tenant attorney for complex lease disputes.
4. Acceptable Use
You may use our free calculators for personal, non-commercial, or household planning purposes. Automated scraping, malicious disruption, or unauthorized commercial resale of our site code is prohibited.
